My good friends at Barely Political called me to do a Cop Out red band trailer remix. Auto-tuning was done by none other than Mike Gregory from Auto-Tune The News! Cop Out hits theaters February 26!
Sundance part 3…
When I met Chase at the Tweethouse at Sundance, he was introduced to me as a photographer. I don’t know a whole lot about the photography world, but I did recognize him from a short film he did for the Nikon Festival:
Chase is an absolute BEAST behind the lens, an artist’s artist. Take a look at his portfolio and you’ll recognize a lot of his amazing commercial work, and his Songs for Eating and Drinking is a concept unto itself. He and his table guru friend Michael Hebb serve dinner and drinks for some incredibly talented musicians, where they perform songs for each other, artist to artist, just like the old days before they had audiences to play for. I can only imagine the conversations that took place. See it through Chase’s eyes at www.songsforeatinganddrinking.com
By the way, his iPhone app “Best Camera” will help improve YOUR photos. And it doesn’t end there www.thebestcamera.com
Do yourself a favor and spend an hour on his website and you’ll be both inspired and humbled. www.chasejarvis.com This vid just gives you a taste:
Part 2 of my Sundance review…I was supposed to write more earlier but got sick, and you know how that goes.
I was fortunate enough to run into Oren and Justine Jacob in the lobby of our hotel at Sundance. Turns out they were in town to show of “Ready, Set, Bag!” which Justine directed and produced, and Oren executive produced. It’s a documentary based on the national competition for Best Bagger. As in, people bagging groceries for speed and accuracy. This film particularly struck a chord with me since I earned my stripes in similarly obscure competition; which was scratching records for speed and accuracy. I’m not sure what the film is rated (I’m guessing PG at the most), but I guarantee fun for the entire family, especially if any of you have worked in a supermarket (which I have). At the heart of it all is a great story about being passionate about something that most people take for granted. Check out www.readysetbag.com to attend a screening and get your copy!
Sundance was incredible. I waited 5 years to play there because I wanted my first time there to be meaningful, and it certainly was. For the first time in a while I’ve got thoughts I’d like to share that can’t be contained in 140 characters; trust me that’s rare these days. So my next few blog entries will be dedicated to cool people and things that have happened at Sundance.
First and foremost, G-Technology by Hitachi
It’s always a great thing when you can work with a company that you already admire. I’ve relied on G-Technology drives since they released their 500GB beast, and 10+ TB later they still haven’t failed me. So it was a pretty easy decision to go to Sundance with them. How cool is this exclusive G-drive Mobile package?

Does that face look familiar? It also includes a video mashup I did specially for Sundance. Win. On top of that, my live performance was streamed and viewers won drives. Double win. As I got to know them, I came to find out that they are also great supporters of some amazing artists and projects. Take it all in at www.g-technology.com
They’ve also done a great job documenting some very interesting Sundance panels, premieres, and people on their YouTube channel.
Check out this video I did with the lovely Kristina Klebe! There’s some clips you’ll definitely recognize, as well as some unreleased goodies. Love her!
My life has been pretty digital lately so I decided to put a project together that let me step away from the computer and get arts and craftsy, at least for part of the building process. The idea behind this piece was to use the turntable in two ways that are on opposite sides of the technical spectrum. One being video scratching, which at the moment is the most advanced thing you can do with a turntable. The second thing is the zoetrope, which is the origin of motion picture. Anyone who has taken a film class will recognize the Muybridge images!
This was so much fun to make, definitely one of the best production experiences I’ve had. Helps to have a kick-ass crew, a few good ideas, and a beautiful location. We got to shoot at the Regency Center in San Francisco, which was built exactly 100 years ago, in a room that not too many people get to step foot in.
Here’s an interview I did with one of my all time favorite publications, Wired! My apologies to the video editor, I think the crew and I were cracking up on 90% of the tapes. Such a good time!
After I drooled over the trailer for Gamer, I hit the lab and made a remix!
The most important part of any project for me is the very beginning where I get to choose a direction to pursue. I’m one of those extremely fortunate people who has a great creative circle so before I begin any project I like to run my ideas past them and figure out what works and what doesn’t. It’s great for me because my good ideas get encouraged, but I’ve also had some wacko ideas that I’m glad never saw the light of day! Anyway, I’m about to begin production on my next record, and I would like to open my creative circle to you. Here’s my question: What style(s) of music and sounds would you most like to hear on my next record? You can be as specific as “make something like (insert DJ/producer here)” or as general as “just make a dance record”.Nothing’s off limits, I’ll do a standup comedy record if enough people want it. You can reach me on www.twitter.com/mikerelm, www.facebook.com/mikerelm, or directly at relm@mikerelm.com. I plan on taking your input very seriously, because at the end of the day this album is yours, not mine. Mike
